Evolving business landscape

The Evolving Business Landscape. Why the shift to virtual selling is actually good news for smaller businesses

Something profound has shifted in the world of business over the last decade and if you run a smaller company, it’s worth sitting up and paying attention.

Quiet disruption #

The move to a virtually-driven world has accelerated a fundamental change in how buying and selling works. The old model, built on scale, reach, and the sheer weight of a big brand behind you, has been quietly disrupted. In its place, a new model has emerged. One that places meaningful relationships, genuine communication, and human connection at its centre.

And smaller businesses, it turns out, are extraordinarily well placed to thrive in it.

David and Goliath #

Seth Godin observed that open systems, loosely coordinated networks, and accessible technology are changing the dynamic between David and Goliath. Tiny teams can now have significant impacts on entrenched power structures. The incentives have shifted. There is little advantage in being a cheap cog in a vast machine when you have the upside of challenging conventional wisdom with fresh thinking and genuine care.

This is the landscape you operate in. Not a disadvantage to overcome, but a landscape designed, almost accidentally, for the kind of relationship-first, human-centred approach that comes naturally to those who never wanted to be aggressive marketers in the first place.

Build meaningful relationships #

Relationships built with well-judged approaches, well-timed contact, and crystal clear messaging will always outperform volume and noise. That was true before the world went virtual. It is more true now.

Keep collaborating. Keep innovating. Keep investing in new approaches.

Exciting times and they genuinely are.

“Celebrate the excitement of trying to build something new and wonderful.” — Abhijit Banerjee
