Human to human relationship

Why the shift to virtual selling makes genuine connection more valuable, not less.

Something interesting has happened in the world of sales and marketing over the last few years. The tools have multiplied. Channels have expanded. Automation has accelerated. And yet, the results for many businesses have become more elusive, not less.

The reason, more often than not, comes down to one thing: the human relationship has been quietly squeezed out.

Know, like, trust #

In the rush to scale, to automate, to optimise and to reach more people with less effort, the fundamentally human nature of buying and selling has been overlooked. People don’t buy from processes. They don’t build trust with funnels. They buy from people they know, like, and feel genuinely understood by.

The shift to a virtually-driven world has actually accelerated the need for a different sales model — one that places meaningful relationships at its centre rather than treating them as a nice-to-have. Because when everything can be automated, the thing that cannot be automated becomes the competitive advantage.

Be human #

That thing is you. Your judgement, warmth and ability to read a situation, respond to a person, and communicate in a way that makes someone feel seen rather than processed.

Building those relationships well requires three things consistently applied. A well-judged approach — knowing when to advance and when to hold back. Well-timed contact — reaching people when they’re receptive rather than when it’s convenient for you. And a crystal clear message — one that speaks to their world, not yours.

Rare human connection #

Ideas and information are everywhere. Human connection, applied with care and consistency, remains genuinely rare.

“There’s a ton of value in taking the time to build a real human to human relationship.” — Mike Allton
