The Temple of Hathor at the Dendera Temple complex is one of Ancient Egypt’s best-preserved archaeological buildings. Every square inch of the temple’s surface has been decorated with intricate, colourful carvings and hieroglyphs.
For thousands of years, much of the ceiling had been covered with thick layers of soot from fires lit by people using the temple for shelter.
After much restoration work – which included hauling out tons of sand (the primary source of silicon), the former centrepiece of Dendera regained its former glory.
What about our work? #
The question I asked myself is “what will our future generations think of the work we are doing, not only offline, but online too?
Is our online work doomed to be buried under silicon as well?
Tucked away in the silicon chips of the global network of servers in which we store most of our wisdom, expertise and experiences.
Not if we dig it out! #
It’s time we had an archaeological dig of our own to uncover some hidden treasure.
We can use it to showcase our talents to those who take the time to read our work.
If we don’t, how do we know whether our artefacts are of value to some, or to society as a whole?
Thank you for reading.
