A good product brings happiness to everyone.
Alan Titchmarsh’s excellently restorative Love Your Weekend programme, featured a dairy farm yesterday.
Three generations work on the farm: grandfather, son and granddaughter.
The family have bred their cows specifically for the quality of their milk: the raw material for cheesemaking.
They have built a modern facility for the manufacture, storage and ripening of their product. It looked very swish. As for the cheese – wow!
My hero of the piece, though, was their onsite cheesemaker.
Hands-on and customer-facing. He is the happy, friendly face of the operation, going out to shows, markets and their customers in retail and hospitality.
The cheesemaker is there right from the start of the process – filling the tank with milk, adding the (correct) bacteria and mixing it all up – to the finish, where he sees the happy faces of the farm’s customers, when out and about.
It was the cheesemaker’s wisdom: “A good product brings happiness to everyone,” that resonated with me yesterday.
Thank you for reading.
