Patience and tenacity

2 min read

Patience, tenacity and the paradox. Why the hunger for quick results is the biggest enemy of lasting business development projects.

Everything worthwhile takes time.

Patience: the rare commodity #

Strip away the emotion and the success-related agendas from any business development project and ask honestly what’s needed to deliver a real result. The answer, almost always, is patience. And yet patience is precisely what sales, marketing, and lead generation projects most consistently lack.

The paradox runs deep. The hunger for results shortens timelines. Shortened timelines put pressure on the people delivering the work. That pressure produces the one outcome nobody wanted – abandonment. Often just as the campaign was beginning to build genuine momentum.

It’s one of the most common and most avoidable mistakes in business development.

Relationship building takes time #

Any campaign worth running needs time to scale up, time to reach the right people, and time to build relationships with strangers. Strangers don’t become clients overnight. They become clients through repeated, well-judged contact that gradually builds familiarity, then interest, then trust. There are no shortcuts to that process. Sprinkling stardust and waving a magic wand won’t build a solid foundation.

Collaboration, communication, and genuine trust in the process will.

Patience is the ability to remain calm and purposeful when progress feels slow: to keep showing up even when the results aren’t yet visible. Tenacity is what keeps you moving forward when setbacks arrive, as they always do. Together they form something more powerful than either quality alone: the quiet, unshakeable commitment to seeing things through.

The businesses that last are almost never the ones that moved fastest. They’re the ones that kept going longest.

Trust the process. Honour the timeline. Do the work.

“Before every great reward, comes the footprints of persistency, consistency, perseverance, courage, faith and patience.” — Edmond Mbiaka
