The quiet permission to keep showing up.
The doubt creeps in at the most inconvenient moments. You’re about to send the email campaign, schedule the LinkedIn post, or publish the piece you’ve spent time crafting — and then the voice arrives.
Why bother? People might unsubscribe. They might unfollow. In this vast ocean of content, am I just adding to the noise?
Natural human hesitation #
It’s a very human hesitation. And for reluctant marketers — people who never set out to be marketers at all — it can be paralysing. The default becomes silence. Safer not to bother. Easier to wait until the moment feels more certain, the content feels more polished, the timing feels more right.
But here’s the honest answer to the “why bother” question: because you care. And caring, in a world of automated content and algorithmic filler, is rarer and more valuable than you might think.
But your audience has opted in #
Your audience — the people who have chosen to follow you, subscribe to your list, or connect with you on LinkedIn — are not passive bystanders waiting to be irritated. They opted in. They wanted to hear from you. One more thoughtful email or considered post will not tip them into a fit of rage. It will remind them why they chose to listen in the first place.
The people who tune in to you sense when you care about what you’re presenting. That care communicates itself through the quality of your thinking, the honesty of your voice, and the consistency of your presence. It builds trust slowly and quietly over time.
If you care, they care #
If you care, they care. Your unique perspective matters. Your mission matters. Your voice matters.
Don’t mistake the doubt for wisdom. It’s just fear wearing a sensible coat.
